Cyber Bullying Article

http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/cyberbullying-what-teachers-and-schools-can-do

The article I read was about how teachers can help with cyber bullying. The first thing the article says teachers can do is learn how to recognize cyber bullying. Some students do not refer to it as cyber bullying and others think if it occurred while they were at home online then there is nothing that can be done about it at school. Although the bullying may start online away from school, the affects of it stem to school as well. The article then explains the importance of teachers taking cyber bullying seriously. Although cyber bullying seems to be a normal thing these days, it is not something teachers or schools can just ignore. It is also important that teachers recognize the signs and encourage students to report any type of bullying. Most kids are afraid to "tattle" so they do not say anything when they or someone else are being bullied. Teachers should let students know that it is a good thing to report bullying. It is extremely important that teachers respond to bullying. If a teachers sees or hears from a student that someone is being bullied, they should seek immediate help for the student being bullied and immediate punishment for the student who is doing the bullying. It is important to notify parents when their child is being bullied or is bullying other children. Some parents do not realize that their kids use social media to taunt other children. This article concludes by giving websites that teachers and parents should watch that are popular among teens and are used for the means of bullying.
