“Why so many kids can’t
sit still in school today”
This article discusses the reasoning behind why students
cannot pay attention during school. The author discusses the fact that students
diagnosed with ADHD are on the rise and that many believe it is to blame for
students not paying attention in class. The author stresses play and movement
and the fact that students’ bodies must move in order for their brains to work
properly.
I think this article is important for all teachers to read.
Although we cannot control the time spent at recess or physical education we
can try and incorporate movement in our classrooms instead of just making
students sit the entire time in our classroom. My nephew has ADHD and he gets
into trouble a lot at school because of his behavior. Whenever he is focused
though, he makes very good grades. Therefore, I think in order to help students
sit still at important times, we need to provide them with movement when it can
be incorporated.
